Today we are announcing new tools on Facebook and Instagram to help people manage their time: an activity dashboard, a daily reminder, and a new way to limit notifications. We developed these tools based on the support and inspiration of extensive research and feedback from leading mental health experts and organizations, academics, our own community. We want people to be intentional, positive and inspiring to spend time on Facebook and Instagram. Our hope is that these tools give people more control over the time we spend on our platforms and foster conversations between parents and teens about online habits that are right for them.
The Activity Dashboard shows you a bar-chart of the daily app as well as the time spent in each app. The daily reminder lets you choose a time limit for each app, and an alert is sent to you when hit. However, you will be able to dismiss the alert and continue using the application.Finally, you can mute notifications for a period of 15 minutes to eight hours to reduce the possibility of being pulled back into apps.
To access new devices:-
- Facebook: Settings > Your Time on Facebook
- Instagram: Settings > Your Activity
Below the bar chart are options for managing your time and managing your notifications.The
company says that new features in both apps will soon be 'rolled out'. Facebook usually does silent updates in the background, adding notes to your feed when updated.
